An anomalous amplified pattern for summer featured a nearly stationary deep 500mb closed low over western Kentucky. Cold temperatures aloft combined with seasonally average moisture led to the development of numerous storms during the early morning hours on July 1st. Additional storms developed during the mid to late afternoon hours.
