Trego County Flood History

Flash Flood — Aug 28, 2025

An upper-level trough was positioned in northern Kansas with a 700 mb temperature gradient stretching into SW Kansas with a wedge of high moisture. On the afternoon of the 27th, supercells initiated and produced severe hail and winds. Into the evening, it became a more multicellular regime with widespread heavy rainfall. This produced flash flooding in multiple counties.

Flash Flood — Sep 16, 2024

As a shortwave trough moved into Kansas, thunderstorms developed along the dryline over western Kansas. These were training cells in two clusters. The northern storms dropped large hail (2.25 IN) and large quantities of rain in Trego county. The southern storm generated strong winds (63 MPH) in Gray county and thunderstorm wind damage in Finney county.

Flood — May 29, 2018

A residual outflow boundary and a warm front interacted with an unstable atmosphere to produce severe thunderstorms.

Flood — Sep 8, 2009

Runoff from heavy rain that fell on the 7th and 8th produced some minor flooding.

Flood — Sep 19, 1996
