A deep low pressure system drew warm and moist air into western Virginia from the Gulf of Mexico, and produced rounds of light to occasionally moderate rainfall across Smyth County over a 3-day period, with the most substantial rainfall occurring on February 24th. Rainfall rates were observed approaching 1 inch per hour at times.
