Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms developing on the afternoon of May 21st in a moderate to strongly unstable environment with MLCAPE values in excess of 2000 J/kg but relatively weak shear. Atmospheric moisture was high with precipitable water values greater than 1.5 inches. Storms that developed were slow moving and trained over the same area around Columbia causing significant flooding in downtown including the Five Points area and at the intersection of Main and Whaley St.
