Flash Flood — Reeves, TX

A cold front had pushed into West Texas. Modest wind shear was across far West Texas. The Davis Mountains provided a good source of elevated heating and lift. Fairly high moisture and instability were across the area. These conditions resulted in heavy rain that produced flash flooding in Reeves County.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Odile and an associated mid-level circulation were still over the region. The airmass was very moist, and lift was enhanced by upslope low-level winds across southeast New Mexico and the higher terrain of West Texas.

Weak upper ridging was to the west of the region. Decent moisture and lift were across the area allowing for light showers across southeast New Mexico and along and west of the Upper Trans Pecos in West Texas.

The remains of Tropical Storm Odile were moving across the region as they rotated around the circulation of an upper ridge. A circulation was also located over the central Permian Basin which was allowing rain to move across the same areas.
