The surface synoptic set-up on June 22, 2022 was similar to that of the severe weather event just 6 days earlier, as a north-south stationary boundary bisected central Pennsylvania ahead of a cold front approaching from the Great Lakes. To the west of the north-south stationary boundary, the airmass over western Pennsylvania was very warm and humid with strong instability.
