It was a fairly typical summer-time regime in place with abundant moisture available and warm temperatures expected. Convergence along sea-breeze boundaries sparked off thunderstorm development. It was along these boundaries that a thunderstorm produced severe gusts in marine areas. That same storm grew westward from Lake Borne across the city of New Orleans. In doing so, movement was slow and thus flash flooding occurred.
