An upper level ridge that was centered just north of the area began to slide east. As it did so, it both allowed for decreased subsidence aloft and Gulf moisture to move in. Daytime heating combined with precipitable water values rising to 2.2+ inches set the stage for a couple thunderstorms to produce flash flooding in Baton Rouge.
