An upper level ridge was centered east of the area and another to the west. That put the local area in a region of weakness between them which is an area conducive for higher rain chances. The upper air soundings around that time showed sufficient instability and ample moisture in place to support numerous thunderstorm development. The local precipitable water value was well over 2 inches which provided the potential for heavy rainfall. One storm developed around Baton Rouge in the afternoon. Fo
