An area of low pressure and associated frontal boundaries brought several severe thunderstorms to central, north-central, and northeastern South Dakota from the evening of July 3rd to the early morning hours of July 4th. The storms produced high winds of 60 to 77 mph and torrential rainfall. The highest wind gusts include 77 mph one west-northwest of Mellette, 70 mph at Cravens Corner, and 14 miles north of Vivian.
