Thunderstorms developed in the afternoon over and near the higher terrain, with an initial risk of strong to severe storms in the Pikes Peak region. This risk then spread into the eastern plains along the Highway 50 corridor later in the evening, where large hail damaging wind gusts up to around 75 mph, localized flash flooding, and even a tornado occurred.
