Flash Flood — Jefferson, AL

A MCS over Tennessee during the morning hours of July 21 pushed an outflow boundary into north Alabama in the afternoon. The air mass was very unstable south of the outflow boundary with surface based CAPE 3500-4500 J/kg and DCAPE 1300-1500 J/kg. The storms that initiated in the afternoon organized into QLCS that produced widespread damaging winds, large hail, and flash flooding.

Hurricane Katrina made landfall along the Gulf Coast early Monday morning August 29, 2005 as a large category four hurricane. Sustained winds were around 145 mph in southeast Louisiana. Katrina continued northward affecting areas from New Orleans to Mobile.
