Localized flooding occurred in association with a thunderstorm complex over southeast Illinois and the lower Wabash Valley. Numerous showers and thunderstorms occurred on the leading edge of a southwest wind flow of warm and moist air. High pressure over the central Gulf coast states combined with low pressure over the upper Missouri Valley resulted in the southwest wind flow.
