Major Hurricane Ian moved north from far western Cuba into the western Straits of Florida. As Ian moved north over the Dry Tortugas and into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico from September 27th through the 28th, tropical storm force winds and damaging storm surge occurred across the Florida Keys.
