Above normal temperatures accelerated snowmelt from a near-record snowpack. This resulted in high and fast flows on several rivers and drainages across Western Colorado. The increased runoff and flooding compromised several county roads and bridges across Montezuma, Archuleta, Routt, Delta, Dolores, Montrose, and Moffat counties.

The Carl Smith Dam at Patterson Reservoir #3 failed, sending a wall of water down Leroux Creek. The earthen dam break was 200 feet wide and 45 feet high. The wall of water was up to 10 feet high and averaged 100 feet in width.

Torrential rainfall caused flash flooding in and around the town of Delta. Street flooding occurred and many roads were temporarily closed by flood waters. The Black Canyon Road was damaged.
