A pesky low pressure system off the coast of the Carolinas maintained shower and thunderstorm chances in southeast West Virginia during the Memorial Day weekend. Across the headwaters of the Tug Fork River near McDowell County, over 2-3 inches of rain had fallen in the 24 hours prior to May 29th, which resulted in the river rising out of its banks.
