A warm front passed through the area. The combination of increasing moisture throughout all levels of the atmosphere, forcing from the warm front, and an unstable atmosphere caused heavy showers and thunderstorms to develop. These storms trained over a few areas around the Washington Metropolitan area, resulting in instances of flash flooding.

Thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall and high winds moved through the Virginia suburbs of Washington D.C. during the evening of the 22nd. In Fairfax County, the intersection of Chain Bridge Road and Lee Highway was flooded in Fairfax.

A weak cold front settled over the Mid Atlantic between June 23 and June 27. Waves of low pressure rode northeast along the front. Flow in the atmosphere was parallel to the boundary, producing several rounds of persistent showers and thunderstorms.
