The combination of surface high pressure centered over the eastern Great Lakes and Tropical Storm Idalia lifting northeast then east off the North Carolina outer banks, resulted in very strong northeast winds which caused minor to moderate (tidal) coastal flooding over portions of Northampton county adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay.
