An approaching cold front from the Michigan and Mid-Mississippi Valley region led to the development of scattered showers and thunderstorms. These storms first developed across the western Piedmont and tracked east-northeast toward the Sandhills and Coastal Plain in the late-evening and overnight hours. Several reports of flash flooding and damaging winds were reported in Guilford and Forsyth Counties.
