A large area of stratiform rain spread across the southeast South Carolina in the predawn hours ahead of a warm front lifting northward. Immediately along the warm front, embedded thunderstorms developed and brought a period of strong wind gusts and intense rainfall to the region. A large area of heavy rainfall, with amounts of 2-4 inches, occurred from around Beaufort up through the Charleston metro area.
