An area of surface low pressure was located over east central South Dakota at 18z Wednesday (11th), with a very tight surface pressure gradient to its east and northeast (into southeast North Dakota). Wind speeds in the low levels of the atmosphere were also quite strong, and when mixed down to the surface produced some severe wind gusts. Thunderstorms also produced some scattered hail.
