Northwesterly flow set up across the Carolinas in late July, with several shortwaves pushing over the Appalachians and forcing widespread convection. With significant instability in place on the afternoon of July 30, several strong to severe thunderstorms developed across central SC and east central GA. These resulted in hail and wind damage reports, as well as some isolated flash flooding.
