A cold front and surface trough west of North Carolina approached in the afternoon and evening hours. Ahead of the boundary, scattered showers and thunderstorms developed across the southern Piedmont and tracked east-northeast into the central to eastern Piedmont and Coastal Plain of central North Carolina by the late afternoon and evening hours. Several reports of downed trees and power lines were reported in Wake, Harnett, and Johnston Counties, as well as some isolated flash flooding.
