In an environment characterized by PWAT values of around 1.5 with MLCAPE values near 1000 J/KG, thunderstorm activity developed across the Mohave Desert during the early afternoon hours. An isolated strong thunderstorm developed over the higher terrain area of Joshua Tree National Park, where it remained anchored and dumped over an inch of rain in less than one hour, enough rainfall in a short time span to cause road closures due to flooding.
