Flash Flood — Lafayette, WI

Two rounds of severe weather affected south-central and southeast Wisconsin on July 10th. An initial cluster of storms north of the Milwaukee area in Ozaukee County pulsed to severe limits and generated large hail up to 3/4 inch in diameter during the early afternoon hours. A second round of severe weather was associated with several clusters or short bowing segments of lines of storms that moved west to east across southern Wisconsin during the late afternoon and evening hours. A strong squall line with torrential rainfall moved east along and north of warm front over southern WI. A quick 2.5-4.5 inches of rain resulted in the flash flooding of creeks, small rivers, and urban and rural roadways. Some trees were downed by straight-line winds.

Flash Flood$480K damage

Lafayette, WI · Jul 18, 1996

Flash flooding occurred in the villages of Blanchardville and Argyle due to rainfalls of 6 to 7 inches within a 4 to 5 hour period. These rains were the result of thunderstorms developing in Lafayette and Iowa counties, and then training ESE into the Blanchardville area.
