On Saturday September 7, a monsoonal easterly wind flow weather pattern set up and thunderstorms developed across the mountains and spread across the Inland Empire. Some of these storms had very heavy rainfall and prolific lightning. The actively burning Line fire was affected and helped develop additional persistent thunderstorms. On Sunday September 8, thunderstorms were most active in the Inland Empire where flash flooding and strong winds occurred.
