Scattered thunderstorms developed in the early afternoon hours along a cold front and near a weak area of low pressure. These storms moved slowly across the Charleston metro area through the mid afternoon and produced very heavy rainfall. The excessive rainfall resulted in numerous instances of flash flooding across the Charleston peninsula as well as in the West Ashley area.
