The passage of a strong upper level disturbance, combined with a moist and unstable air mass in place, led to the development of numerous thunderstorms across eastern New York State during Thursday afternoon on August 7th, some of which contained large hail. In addition, very heavy rainfall resulted in significant urban flash flooding in and near downtown Albany.
