A large area of low pressure moved from the Ohio Valley on the morning of the 15th through upstate New York to north of Maine by the morning of the 16th. At the time, the astronomical tidal variations were near a maximum. While little in the way of wind or waves occurred with this event, the combination of the astronomical tide and the surge associated with the storm caused minor flooding in Portland.
