A deep full latitude upper trough was sweeping from the central U.S. into the eastern U.S. A strong cold front accompanied the system. An unseasonably warm, moist air mass was present across Georgia in advance of this system. Widespread moderate to heavy rain tracked repeatedly across the northern 1/4th of the state throughout much of the day in advance of the main weather system.
