Numerous thunderstorms developed during the afternoon from western Kentucky into southwest Indiana in advance of a lead 500 mb shortwave trough ejecting northeast from the Lower Mississippi Valley. A surface front was located near the Ohio River. Deep layer wind shear was favorable for supercells. Very heavy rain accompanied some storms, resulting in isolated flash flooding.
