A boundary was draped across southwest Virginia during the evening of May 14th and slowly drifted south toward the North Carolina border May 15th. Showers with embedded thunderstorms slowly moved along this boundary, setting up a training of heavy rains. This caused flash flooding over portions of southwest Virginia from the New River Valley east into the Piedmont.
