A line of showers and thunderstorms approached the city of Springfield from the west. This line of storms produced three to six inches of rain over the city causing flash flooding leading to numerous water rescues. Additional thunderstorms developed across the rest of southern Missouri. A few of these storms became severe with wind gusts in excess of 60 mph and hail up to the size of golf balls.
