Northwest flow aloft persisted across the southeast United States as the result of a large subtropical high anchored over the southern Plains. A cold front was approaching the area from the northwest. The front, combined with disturbances in the northwest flow aloft, brought another round of showers and thunderstorms to the area during the maximum heating hours of afternoon and evening.
