A mid-atmospheric disturbance moved across a very warm and humid air mass located across much of Vermont during the afternoon of August 21st. Numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms developed and moved across southern and central Vermont.|Some of these showers were accompanied by very heavy rainfall rates of over 2 inches per hour. ||Flash flooding occurred in and around the town of Chelsea with numerous road washouts.
