An approaching low pressure system from the southwest, spread warm, above freezing air over the region on January 24th and 25th. Rain moved into northern New York on the morning of January 25th and continued through the day. Rivers and streams experienced sharp rises on the 25th, with several that crested during the night into the morning hours of the 26th.
