In Lauderdale and Colbert counties in northwestern AL, strong to severe thunderstorms developed ahead of an approaching cold front during the early afternoon hours on May 1st. Large hail, very heavy rainfall, and damaging winds were produced by storms that became severe. Two to four inches of rainfall produced flash flooding in the Waterloo area. A few funnel clouds were also reported.
