A hot, humid, unstable air mass remained across the southeastern United States. The region was located in a weakness between two subtropical upper ridges, one across the western Atlantic and the other stretching from Texas to the desert southwest. An upper trough was moving through the Ohio Valley into the northeast U.S. with a weak accompanying cold front.
