Monsoon moisture moved into southern and central Utah in mid-July, allowing thunderstorms to become more widespread each afternoon. This moisture, combined with the fact that many of these thunderstorms were slow moving, led to flash flooding in many locations across southern Utah. Further north, storms were a little faster moving, and isolated thunderstorm wind damage was reported.
