An extremely warm and moist airmass was in place over the region on the morning of August 15th. Abundant sunshine during the morning hours led to the development of extremely high atmospheric instability by early afternoon. This environment led to numerous severe thunderstorms throughout the day, continuing into the evening hours. Numerous damaging wind reports were received, including several reports of damage caused by a strong outflow boundary that surged south across the forecast area.
