The moist airmass that was in place at the end of July, remained in place into August, with widespread afternoon thunderstorms across Utah. While flash flooding and severe thunderstorms were reported in both northern and southern Utah, the flooding primarily occurred across the southern half of the State, whereas large hail and gusty winds were more common in northern Utah, where there was a better shear environment.
