A cold front approaching from the northwest became stalled across northwest Georgia as a strong subtropical ridge of high pressure built northwestward from the Atlantic. Persistent deep tropical moisture was present across the region as the remnants of Tropical Depression Number Five (TD5) continued to circle through the southeast and mid-south region on the west side of the subtropical ridge.
