An area of low pressure lifting through the eastern Mid-Atlantic and deepening through southeast New England into the Gulf of Maine resulted in an area of heavy rains with amounts ranging 2 to 5 inches across coastal and interior New England on top of melting snows. This large amount of water into various basins resulted in flooding of tributaries and major rivers, inundating local neighborhoods and roadways.
