An upper level storm system approaching from the west helped to trigger numerous showers and thunderstorms mainly over the Appalachians and Blue Ridge Mountains. The storms developed along a slow-moving frontal boundary, and with abundant moisture in place,some of the storms produced heavy rainfall with flash flooding in several counties along with hail and strong winds.
