A cold front moved across northwestern Arkansas during the evening of the 12th. A warm, moist, and unstable air mass existed over the region ahead of the front. Thunderstorms developed along and ahead of the front during the afternoon over central and eastern Oklahoma and moved into northwestern Arkansas during the evening. The stronger storms produced large hail up to golfball size and damaging wind gusts. Locally heavy rainfall also produced some flash flooding.
