Numerous thunderstorms with torrential rain caused local flooding. The storms were supported by a warm front that extended east-northeast from the southern Plains across the Lower Ohio Valley. A 500 mb shortwave trough moved southeast from the Upper Mississippi Valley toward the Ohio Valley, further enhancing the strength of the mesoscale convective system.
