Heavy rain resulted in rapid rises on the Pigeon from NC into TN. Moderate flood stage was exceeded at the forecast point in Newport, NEPT1. In fact, the river rose most rapidly when it rose from minor flood stage of 8 feet to moderate flood stage of 10 feet in roughly an hour and a half.
