An upper level high pressure system centered over eastern Colorado to southwest Nebraska resulted in a persistent easterly steering flow over much of the state. Though previously dry air had been pushed into eastern and central portions of the state, water vapor imagery showed indications of mid level moisture working northward into New Mexico. The addition of mid level moisture along with more unstable conditions led to earlier and more widespread thunderstorm development than in previous day
