Slow moving thunderstorms developed along a nearly stationary frontal boundary beneath an upper trof across northern Penobscot county during the evening of the 23rd. An isolated severe thunderstorm developed near Patten with damaging winds. The storm then remained nearly stationary for several hours producing very heavy rains.
