Well in advance of an approaching cold front, thunderstorms formed during the afternoon. Out ahead of the storms, temperatures were in the 90s. A steep low level lapse rate and strong unidirectional flow aloft helped produce some damaging wind gusts.||The northeast to southwest orientation of the cluster of storms eventually bent over and became oriented from east to west across northeast Kentucky into southern West Virginia.
